MI Helicopters was established in 1993 as MI Helicopter Service and based itself in Taroom (Central Queensland) until its relocation and renaming in 1995, where it moved to Quilpie (South West Queensland) as MI Helicopters Pty Ltd. In 2003 MI Helicopters move to Hervey Bay to continue its growth and support its operations in Quilpie. In 2006 continued growth in commercial operations required MI Helicopters to support its already strong commercial clients in Roma, by establishing a permanent base.

MI Helicopters operates a fleet of helicopters, from bases in Hervey Bay (Hangar 1, Don Adams Drive, Hervey Bay Airport) on Fraser Island (Kingfisher Bay Resort, Happy Valley, Cathedral Beach & Orchid Beach) and in Roma (at the airport).

Operating 364 days (closed Christmas ) MI Helicopters’ product range now spans scenic flights over Fraser Island and the beautiful Great Sandy Strait, and fast transfers from Hervey Bay Airport to most parts of Fraser Island, including Kingfisher Bay Resort  and sumptuous lunch packages to tantalise any taste buds.

Our commercial operations fly to most parts of Queensland, enjoying working relationships with such companies as Ergon Energy, Agility, Epic Energy, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services (QPWS), Department of Primary Industries & Fisheries (DPI) .

Kevin Clark - Director/Chief Pilot - CPL 442253

Kevin hails from the cattle country around Taroom. After completing boarding school at Rockhampton Grammar, Kevin began working as  a jackaroo for Stanbroke Pastoral Company in 1985, working on properties in the Clermont area. After several years working cattle on the ground Kevin found he had a desire to become a Commercial Helicopter Pilot. He lived in Brisbane for a period of 1 year and completed his commercial helicopter pilot's licence with Helicopters Brisbane, Archerfield. After becoming a commercial helicopter pilot he attained a position with Millers Helicopters, Archerfield and was based in Taroom. In 1993 Kevin moved onto operating his own business, he purchased his first Robinson R22 helicopter and estabilished MI Helicopters. Taroom had been the base for 2years and expansion was in his sights. A move to Quilpie in South West Queensland saw Kevin expand his business and purchase another two Robinson R22 helicopters and a Robinson R44 helicopter.

Kevin has been flying Robinson Helicopters during this time and gained experience in all facets of flying, holding a mustering endorsement, low-level endorsement, Robinson R22, R44, Hughes 300, sling loading endorsements, dangerous goods licence and first aid certificate.
